2020..... FRIEND OR FOE?

WHICHEVER WAY YOU LOOK AT IT, 2020 WAS TOUGH. While I prefer not to dwell on the past considering we are in a new year, I do believe that our past experiences and what we take from them have a significant impact on our future. We can either learn from our experiences and grow, or we can choose to remain stagnant.

CHANGE IS INEVITABLE AND CAN LEAD TO GROWTH.

In the midst of finishing up grad school, building a business, and working with clients, I needed something to help me stay focused and distract me from all the external noise that came along with 2020. After weeks of researching various articles and social media posts -- I discovered another sector of wellness that I never tapped into -- the power of crystal healing. I was intrigued and it appeared as though others were too. My wild guess was that 2020 had left many of us searching for answers, an opportunity to reflect, seek, and open our eyes to our own internal truth, for healing, purpose, and peace. And I believe that spiritual wellness was the key that many of us needed to unlock that door.

SYNCHRONICITY OR JUST A COINCIDENCE?

From the people I had met and the conversations I had, I began to interpret these occurrences in my life as a sign and decided to tap into this realm of spirituality, wellness, and self-care. With all the ups and downs that 2020 brought to our lives, I noticed that there wasn’t just internal work that needed to be done but external as well -- my skin also began to feel the effects! I turned to various DIY remedies, but they were only short-term fixes.

After a few weeks of desperation, my friend Jen posted about an esthetician that she highly recommended on her Instagram story. Her name was Louise and I was drawn to her services as well as her story. I was also drawn to her Reiki services since learning about the seven chakras was something I was interested in exploring. For those of you who have not heard of reiki before, reiki is a holistic system for balancing, healing, and harmonizing all aspects of an individual. This includes the mind, body, spirit, emotions. You can learn more about reiki here.

I was fully aware that I was in need of a day of relaxation, but I wasn’t sure which package would best suit my specific needs, so I gave Louise a call. She explained to me what each package entailed and asked what I really wanted to focus on. After our call, I decided to book the Radiant Reiki Facial. That included a deep cleanse, exfoliation, extractions, hydrojelly mask, high frequency, HA galvanic therapy, facial massage, and reiki, focusing on balancing all chakras and aura cleansing. It was the perfect package that combined the internal and external wellness I was looking for. In addition, Louise’s personality was warm, kind, and helpful so I knew I made the right decision by booking an appointment with her. 2020 was tough and I deserved this.

A DAY OF SHEER BLISS.

Three days later, I met Louise at her beautiful Brooklyn space and she was just as positive and energetic in person as she was over the phone. She met me downstairs and welcomed me with open arms. Once we got upstairs, I could not stop talking! It felt as though I had known Louise for years. As we began chatting about our lives, my skincare routine, and self-care and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of peace as I admired her gorgeous space filled with art and beautiful crystals. The ambiance in the room was intoxicating -- from the aromatherapy to the music and lighting -- it was sheer bliss.

Before my session, Louise explained to me what I should expect and answered all my questions. It was clear that she was an expert in this field and I knew that I was in good hands. She focused on my facial first. What surprised me was the amount of time she took on extracting my skin. This part of the facial is not the most pleasant but is necessary. I think it's fair to say that the facial massage was hands down the best facial I’ve received. My skin felt rejuvenated and supple afterward -- what a feeling!

Next up was my reiki session. I felt such a deep relaxation during my session that I’m pretty sure I fell asleep at one point. Louise expressed to me some areas that she felt needed to be addressed and she was spot on. She recommended that I begin journaling my thoughts and feelings to organize them, self-reflect, and inspire creativity. After my reiki, I felt more in tune with my body and Spirit and a greater trust in myself and my decisions.

Saying yes to glowing skin AND glowing energy.

It has been two weeks now and I can confidently say that my skin looks clearer and my aura feels lighter. The reiki facial experience has introduced me to the importance of balancing and protecting my energy.

Louise also presented me with a small gift bag that included skincare product samples that I’ve been using after my facial which has helped my skin maintain that glowy supple look and feel (sorry guys, the amethyst is not included).

WE WERE AND ARE STILL ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. While 2020 has impacted each of us in many different ways, one thing that remains apparent is that collectively, we experienced many of the same emotions -- uncertainty, confusion, and frustration, just to name a few. However, resiliency, innovation, and adaptability have kept us moving forward in all aspects of our lives. Regardless of our gender, socioeconomic status, religion, or ethnicity, we were and are still all in this together.

I’m grateful for the services available that are designed to guide and support each of us in our journey. Whether that be meditation, yoga, journaling, affirmations, reiki, or a simple day at the spa - we all deserve to live with inner peace and light.

Thank you 2020 -- the year that uprooted our lives and forced us to plant new seeds to grow. May we take those seeds into 2021 with an open heart and mind.
