5 Steps for the Perfect At-Home Facial

Updated: May 2, 2022

Peace Loves!

With some of us having time off during the holiday season, this is the perfect time for some R&R and a well-deserved at-home facial!

We all have different skin types so using the right products is essential. When it comes to maintaining well-balanced skin an at-home facial can do the trick when you’re in-between facials or if your skin needs a quick pick-me-up.

Before you get started, prepare to relax and unwind. Take 3 cleansing breaths, deep breath in and exhale. Light a candle, burn some sage, or diffuse Light as a Feather and pour yourself a glass of lemon water.

This routine can be done semi-weekly or weekly depending on your skin's needs.

Step 1: Cleanse. Remove any makeup and/or products. Your face should be refreshingly clean.

Step 2: Steam. If you have one, bring out your at-home steamer. You can also fill up your sink with hot water and throw a towel over your head. Steam for about 5 minutes.

Step 3: Lightly exfoliate. Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells and relieve your pores of oil and dirt.

Step 4: Mask. Applying a detoxifying or hydrating mask right after exfoliating will provide your skin with the appropriate treatment helping to balance your skin.

Step 5: Moisturize. Apply a serum and your favorite moisturizer.

While Skin Script happens to be my favorite for daily regimens, I love GlyMed for my semi-weekly routine. It is not that one company is better than the other. It is based on the way their product lines are designed. I use both lines at home and in my professional facial treatments.

Here are a few Glymed products to use for your at-home facial depending on your specific skin type and needs:

Exfoliate:

  • Oxygen deep pore cleanser is great for all skin types, exfoliates and provides a deep pore cleanse.

  • Ultra Hydrating Enzyme exfoliates and detoxifies skin as it boosts cellular renewal. Packed with hydrating botanicals and antioxidants it instantly moisturizes dehydrated skin.

  • Restorative Skin Clarifying Masque is best for oil prone skin. Lifts away dull layers and detoxifies the skin. Helps balance oil, clarify skin and reduce pore size. I love applying this to clients with oily skin. It reduces the oil while revealing a healthy refreshing radiance.

Mask:

  • Anti-Aging: Wrinkle prescription is amazing at hydrating, it also helps to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. This is part of my semi-weekly regimen

  • Normal/Dry/Sensitive/Acne/Anti-aging: CBD-Micro Silver Hydratherapy Masque is magical! It is super hydrating, healing and the micro silver helps reduce bacteria to combat acne. It’s definitely a must-have. In my personal regimen, I mix with the wrinkle prescription.

  • Oily/Acne: Skin Bliss Oil control contains citrus fruits extracts known for having astringent properties, and Lilac extract, both help to control oil production.

Serums:

  • Living Cell Clarifier is great for all skin types. If your goal is to reduce pigmentation, inflammation and promote healthy glowing skin this antioxidant-rich serum won’t disappoint. Replace your serum with this and thank me later.

  • Fulvic Elixir is nutrient-rich and packed with powerful antioxidants that reduce inflammation, promotes healing, and has anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antiviral properties. This is my personal favorite to help keep my eczema under control.

Finish by applying your daily moisturizer.

For my personal regimen I mix the Oxygen Deep Pore Cleanser and Ultra Hydrating Enzyme for my weekly exfoliation. I alternate between the two for my second weekly exfoliating treatment depending on what my skin needs. For my treatment masks I may alternate between the CBD Hydrating and Wrinkle Prescription masks or mix them together.
