Aromatherapy Tips To Help With Stress and Anxiety

Sometimes the everyday stresses of life can build up. Aromatherapy provides a natural way to help with relaxation to reduce anxiety, insomnia and stress. Aromatherapy can be magical in creating a harmonic balance, a sense of well being and relaxation to promote sleep. The primary purpose of aromatherapy is to produce an smell that induces an effect on the body. The smells from aromatherapy work with our olfactory system on a subconscious level. Different smells can stimulate the brain and evoke feelings that are then associated with that smell. Aromatherapy can be used for mental and emotional well being. Aromatherapy oils are often used to stimulate or relax the person as needed. Some aromatherapy oils for relaxation are chamomile, sandalwood, ylang-ylang, lavender and marjoram.


There are a few different ways that you can enjoy the smells of aromatherapy such as:

  • Putting a few drops in your bath water

  • Mix with a carrier oil to used for a massage.

  • Sprinkle a few drops on a tissue and place inside your pillow case during bed time.

  • Place a few drops in a diffuser and allow the aroma mist to circulate the room.


Chamomile and lavender are a bit more versatile. When in herbal form the dry herbs can be made into tea, this is also aromatherapy. The tea can be used to drink, add to bath water or mixed with a gentle clays for a calming face mask.


If you look into aromatherapy for purpose of insomnia or better sleep there will be actual recipes that you can make yourself. One in particular is a mixture of two drops of jasmine and four drops of lavender. This can be used in a diffuser or you can place drops of it surrounding your bed. Just make sure that it is in a place where you will be able to smell it best. This mixture can also be used for a massage.


My favorite blend is Light As A Feather. LAAF was created on my journey to help reduce stress and aide better with more restful sleep. With proper dilution it is also very healing for the skin. I diffuse in my treatment room and use as massage medium.





In conjunction with aromatherapy, meditation, Reiki and yoga work excellently as a way to free the negative energy from your body that is causing you to lose precious sleep. Better sleep, results in a better mood, stronger immune system, stress reduction and will lead you into a more healthy life in general.
